Sarahah, meaning 'Honesty',honestly lets you send text messages anonymously to your friends over the Social media. The app created by Saudi developer ZainAlabdin Tawfiq, has crossed all expectations of the developer leading to 11 million downloads on iOS and 9 million on Android.
Although the word Sarahah stands for 'Honesty' or 'Openness', Unfortunately exhibits no-honesty while revealing the identity of the Sender. The repercussions of the app can be very serious for the youth albeit it has got wide acceptance from all ages. It could be equally addictive so as depressive, By now the social media is alleged to be one of the recent cause factor for depressions leading to suicides as well.
Further in addition to all, Our country growing out to be the hub of Cyber-Bullying and cyber hunting do not stand in position to fight this anonymous messaging app that may surge cyber crimes to a new height. According to the Hindutan times - the Mumbai police,Earlier in many cyber-bullying cases sustain low detection and conviction rate as it has only made anyone with a social media account vulnerable to messages of an intimidating or threatening nature.
Erstwhile The Mumbai police said, they do not maintain a separate record for cases of cyberbullying, thus making it difficult to gauge the extent of it at present. Also such cases are on the rise. Cyberbullying cases are currently maintained under the head ‘other cybercrimes’. According to the police, of the 904 cybercrimes registered in 2016, 326 cases were registered under ‘other cybercrimes’. This year, 80 cases were under this head, of the 216 cybercrimes registered till March 12, 2017. The scary part is that barely anyone is convicted.
